A little Shelterbelt for the night

A little Shelterbelt for the night

Thanks to our friends Carleen and Casey in Flandreau, SD we found shelter and learned about the “shelterbelt” – a line of trees or shrubs planted to protect an area, especially a farm field, from strong winds and the erosion they cause. It is mighty windy in South Dakota! We arrived to a cozy fire with friends, beers and innuendo and spent our first night in Loretta. After a late night sleet storm we awoke to a chilly morning with ranch critters and friendly smiles to see us on our way. Off to the Badlands!
